With the 2024 Legislative Session coming to an end, I'd like to periodically point out some of the bills that were approved by the Governor and recently signed into law.
Let's start with none other than the prohibition on the "Carolina Squat" bill.
Don't shoot the messenger!
House Bill 349 will codify and create Section 63-7-105 of the Mississippi Code, which prohibits vehicle modifications that result in the vehicles' front fender being raised four or more inches greater than the height of the rear fender.
It was approved on 4/25/24 by Governor Tate Reeves, and will go into effect on on July 1, 2024.
However, the law provides that officers are to issue "warning" citations until January 27, 2025, at which time the penalties will go into effect.
$100 for a first offense, $200 for a second offense, and $300 for a third offense. Third time offenders will also suffer a 12 month license suspension.
